Residents of Umabor community in Eha-Alumonah, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State are living in fear following the abduction of two persons by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The incident, which occurred on Friday evening along Agu Umabor Road, has heightened security concerns in the previously peaceful community.

According to sources from the community, the victims have been identified as Chinedu Asanya from Eziama Umabor and 20-year-old Chinelo Ezugwu from Elugwu Umabor. The gunmen reportedly ambushed road users, with some managing to escape while the two victims were captured.

A community source, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed shock over the incident: "We are in shock that these people (Fulani herdsmen) have finally entered our peaceful community. No place is safe any longer."

The source further revealed that the kidnappers have already made contact with the families of the victims, demanding ransom. The exact amount being demanded was not disclosed.

"Everybody is scared. We are appealing to the State Government to come to our aid before these people run us out," the source pleaded, specifically calling on Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for urgent intervention.

The community now faces a severe security challenge as the road where the incident occurred is the only access route to Agu Umabor. "What it also means is that our people would be unable to go to farm anymore," lamented the source, highlighting the potential economic impact of the situation.

One of the individuals who escaped from the bandits recounted hearing the victims crying out for help as he fled into the bush.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about insecurity in various parts of Nigeria, with rural communities increasingly becoming targets for armed groups.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the Enugu State Police Command regarding the incident or efforts to rescue the victims.
