The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially confirmed that Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu is now eligible to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria at international level.

Agu, 24, who is of Nigerian descent, had previously represented Germany at the U-21 level, raising questions about his eligibility to switch allegiance to Nigeria. However, the German Football Federation (DFB) has now officially confirmed that Agu never played for Germany in any official match at senior or junior level.

This confirmation has paved the way for the full-back to represent Nigeria at the senior level, a significant boost for the Super Eagles ahead of upcoming competitions.

The defender was recently named in Super Eagles' squad for the Unity Cup invitational tournament by head coach Eric Chelle. Initially, Agu was expected to only train with the squad while awaiting clearance from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

With this clearance now secured, Agu is set to join the Super Eagles as they prepare to fly out to London on Sunday for the Unity Cup tournament. The tournament will provide an opportunity for the newly eligible defender to make his debut for Nigeria.

The Super Eagles are also scheduled to play a friendly match against Russia, as part of their preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures.

Agu's clearance adds depth to Nigeria's defensive options as Coach Chelle continues to build a competitive squad for future international competitions.
