Popular American musician Billy Joel has been diagnosed with a brain disorder known as Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), according to a statement released on Friday by his management team via his Instagram page.
The 76-year-old singer has been forced to cancel all his upcoming tours as the condition has significantly impacted his health. NPH occurs when cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the skull and exerts pressure on the brain.
According to the statement, Joel's symptoms have worsened recently, affecting his vision, hearing, and balance, particularly after recent performances.
"Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period," the statement read.
The management assured fans who had purchased tickets for his shows that "your refund will automatically be processed back to original payment used for the purchase of the tickets."
The cancelled concerts were scheduled to take place across Europe and America from April 26 to July 3, affecting thousands of fans who had been looking forward to seeing the legendary performer live.
Billy Joel is renowned for his extensive career spanning several decades, with hits like "Piano Man," "Uptown Girl," and "We Didn't Start the Fire." His management has not provided details on when he might return to performing.
