Rangers technical adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has pointed to a high number of injuries as the primary reason behind the club's disappointing campaign in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season.
The Flying Antelopes, who were crowned champions last season, failed to defend their title which was claimed by Remo Stars. Adding to their woes, Rangers also crashed out of the President Federation Cup at the semi-final stage.
"A high number of injuries affected us this season," Ilechukwu told Completesports.com. "It's sad we went out the way we did, but looking ahead to next season, I think we need to go back, review the squad, and decide who to let go and who to bring in."
The technical adviser revealed plans to strengthen the squad ahead of the next campaign, though he acknowledged that financial constraints might influence their recruitment strategy.
"That, of course, depends on the club's finances. If the resources are available, we'll bring in a few quality players from other clubs. If not, then we'll turn to the youth team and see who we can promote," he added.
Rangers' inability to replicate their championship-winning form has disappointed many supporters who had high expectations following last season's triumph. The Enugu-based club will now focus on rebuilding for the 2025/2026 NPFL season as they aim to reclaim their position at the summit of Nigerian football.
