The Lagos State Government has significantly enhanced its grassroots security architecture with the recruitment of over 1,000 new officers into the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), as part of comprehensive reforms to strengthen community-based security operations.
Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, announced this development during the 2025 annual ministerial press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
"In the past year, we have deepened our reach across communities by recruiting over 1,000 officers. This is more than just a number, it reflects our commitment to ensuring every ward in Lagos feels the presence of security and order," Oyerinde stated.
The commissioner revealed that the state government has gone beyond merely increasing personnel numbers by establishing specialized units within the LNSC. These new units include Marine Patrol, Forest Rangers, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, Forensics, Crime Scene Management, Paramedics, and Crowd Control.
These specialized divisions are strategically designed to equip the agency with the necessary capabilities to address diverse and emerging security challenges across Lagos State.
To enhance operational efficiency, the government has also provided the corps with modern mobility assets including patrol bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, and vehicles. These resources aim to ensure faster response times and more effective security coverage throughout the state.
The expansion of the LNSC forms part of a broader initiative to modernize local security operations and strengthen community policing efforts across Lagos State, ensuring that security presence is felt at the grassroots level in all communities.
