The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has accused Governor Nasir Idris' administration of weaponizing the judiciary to silence opposition voices following a controversial ruling by a Sharia court against the party's Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sani Dododo.
The allegation was made during a press conference held at the party's state secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, where PDP leaders condemned the court's decision as politically motivated and designed to stifle criticism of the government.
PDP State Chairman, Usman Suru, explained that the ruling stemmed from comments Dododo made during a radio programme, which he maintained were expressed in his official capacity as the party's spokesperson.
"His remarks reflected the PDP's collective position on what we consider reckless, extravagant, and rudderless governance under Governor Nasir Idris," Suru stated during the press conference.
The party chairman described the judgment as unjust and deliberately aimed at suppressing opposition voices in the state, suggesting it represents a dangerous trend in Kebbi's political landscape.
This development comes amid growing tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties in Kebbi State, with the PDP consistently criticizing Governor Idris' administration over governance issues.
The Kebbi State Government has not yet responded to these allegations as of the time of this report.
