The Yobe State Police Command has successfully dismantled a kidnapping syndicate following the abduction of a 22-year-old girl in Fika local government area of the state.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred on May 6, 2025, at approximately 5:58 PM when armed individuals attacked the residence of one Maikudi in Tashan Randa village.

During the attack, the assailants abducted Maikudi's 22-year-old daughter and fired shots that injured a girl in a neighboring house. The Fika Divisional Police Headquarters responded promptly to the situation, launching an investigation that ultimately led to the rescue of the victim and the dismantling of the kidnappers' hideout.

The police statement revealed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N5,000,000. This information facilitated the rescue operation, which was conducted through collaborative efforts with local hunters.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime: 30-year-old Waiti Bello from Jangalawaje Village and 35-year-old Idrissa Adamu from Biriri Village in Gujba LGA. The police noted that other members of the syndicate remain at large, but efforts have been intensified to apprehend them soon.

"The suspects have confessed to the crime and are cooperating with security operatives," the statement read. Items recovered during the operation include one Dane gun and one motorcycle.

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, reaffirmed the commitment of the command's officers and personnel to eradicating such heinous crimes from the state. He called for community collaboration in the ongoing fight against insecurity in Yobe State.

This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of prompt police response and community cooperation in combating kidnapping activities in the region.
