The Edo State Police Command has apprehended a 50-year-old driver, Mohammed Ihuenuma, for allegedly sexually assaulting the 15-year-old daughter of his employer, who serves as a Special Adviser to Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest on Thursday in Benin City, stating that investigations into the case are ongoing. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

According to sources familiar with the case, the driver allegedly took advantage of his position to inappropriately touch the teenager on multiple occasions when he visited the family home on errands. The suspect reportedly made repeated attempts to entice the girl during these encounters.

The victim eventually reported the incidents to her mother, who informed her husband. The father subsequently filed a report with the police, leading to Ihuenuma's arrest.

Yamu urged the public to promptly report cases of rape, indecent assault, and defilement to law enforcement authorities for immediate action. He emphasized that the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

This case highlights the ongoing challenges of sexual violence against minors in Nigeria, where authorities continue to strengthen efforts to combat such crimes and protect vulnerable individuals.
