Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has congratulated Tottenham Hotspur following their 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final held in Bilbao on Wednesday night.

Brennan Johnson's first-half goal proved decisive as Spurs claimed their first major trophy in 17 years, simultaneously securing Champions League qualification for next season.

When questioned about Tottenham's triumph during a press conference on Thursday, Arteta displayed sportsmanship despite the fierce North London rivalry.

"I congratulate them," Arteta told reporters. "I think they have gone through a season with again a lot of obstacles and difficulties and they have helped them at the end to manage a beautiful moment."

The Arsenal boss added, "So you have to congratulate. This is a sport and I am sure they have done everything in their hands to achieve it and they are very happy."

Arteta's comments come as Arsenal conclude their season without silverware, with the Gunners having failed to secure a major trophy since their FA Cup victory five years ago.

Tottenham's manager Ange Postecoglou also spoke after the match about his team's victory, while Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes expressed disappointment following their defeat in the final.

The Europa League triumph represents a significant milestone for Tottenham, who have often faced criticism for their lack of trophies despite consistent performances in domestic and European competitions.
