Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has excluded star forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman from Nigeria's squad for the upcoming Unity Cup match against Ghana and subsequent fixtures against Russia.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially released the list of invited players on Wednesday afternoon, confirming the absence of the two key attackers who have been instrumental for both club and country in recent times.
While specific reasons for their omission were not immediately disclosed, the squad sees the return of several experienced players, including goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, midfielder Frank Onyeka, forward Kelechi Iheanacho, and team captain Ahmed Musa.
Osimhen, who has been in impressive form, was recently named Player of the Season by a former Besiktas coach according to reports from Turkey. There are also suggestions that Turkish giants Galatasaray are 'ready to pay anything' to secure his services.
Lookman's exclusion comes shortly after his stellar performances in both domestic and European competitions this season.
The Unity Cup match against Ghana represents an opportunity to strengthen the football relationship between the two West African nations, while the fixture against Russia will test the Super Eagles against European opposition.
The NFF is expected to provide more details about the squad selection and match preparations in the coming days.
