Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Senator Joseph Akaagerger, who died at the age of 69.
In a statement released by Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia described the retired Lieutenant Colonel as a patriotic Nigerian who dedicated his life to serving both the nation and Benue State with distinction.
The late Akaagerger served as Military Administrator of Katsina State and later represented Benue North-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly. Governor Alia highlighted the deceased's significant contributions to politics, business, community service, and philanthropy during his lifetime.
"The state will miss his contributions, particularly his counsel and engagements as an elder statesman and prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Elders Forum in the state, all of which were geared towards the growth and development of Benue State," the governor stated.
Governor Alia extended his condolences to the immediate family of the late Senator, his associates, and the entire people of Benue State and Nigeria. He urged them to find solace in the legacies left behind by Akaagerger and to build upon them as a way to honor his memory.
The governor also prayed for the eternal rest of the departed Senator, who was a key figure in the state's political landscape and development initiatives.
