Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has expressed profound sadness over the passing of Chief Joseph Iorshagher Akaagerger, former Military Administrator of Katsina State and ex-Senator, who died on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 69.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 20, Governor Alia described the late Akaagerger as a patriotic and committed Nigerian who dedicated his life to serving both the nation and Benue State with distinction.

The Governor highlighted Akaagerger's remarkable career in public service, particularly noting his tenure as Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District (Zone A), where he made significant contributions to politics, business, community development, and philanthropy.

"Benue State will greatly miss his wise counsel, especially in his capacity as an elder statesman and a key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Benue," Governor Alia stated.

The retired Lieutenant Colonel served as Military Administrator of Katsina State during Nigeria's military era before later venturing into politics where he represented his people at the National Assembly.

Governor Alia extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, associates, and the entire people of Benue State and Nigeria, encouraging them to find strength in the enduring legacies that the late senator left behind.

The Governor also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Senator Akaagerger's soul and divine comfort for all those mourning his loss.
