A Ghanaian man, Dauda Seidu Bayigo, has announced his intention to attempt an extraordinary feat by swimming from Ghana to the United States in what would be a record-breaking journey across the Atlantic Ocean.

Bayigo revealed his plans in a TikTok post, stating that the ambitious swim will commence on June 6. If successful, he would cover an astonishing distance of approximately 10,011.55 kilometers (6,220.89 miles) between the two countries.

The Ghanaian athlete aims to break the current Guinness World Record for the longest swimming marathon by an individual. The existing record is held by Nejib, who swam continuously for 76 hours and 30 minutes from September 15 to 18, 2018. During that marathon swim, Nejib covered 120 kilometres (75 miles) across Tunisia's Gulf of Gabes in the Mediterranean Sea, swimming from Sfax on the mainland to the island of Djerba.

Bayigo's planned route would represent a significant leap from the current record, as the distance between Ghana and the United States is over 80 times greater than Nejib's achievement.

Swimming across the Atlantic Ocean presents numerous challenges, including unpredictable weather conditions, strong currents, marine life encounters, and the physical and mental strain of extended time in water. The logistics of such an attempt would require extensive planning for nutrition, rest, and safety measures.

As the date approaches, many will be watching to see how Bayigo prepares for this extraordinary challenge that would test the limits of human endurance and potentially write his name in the record books.
