Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has indicated he is unlikely to represent the Premier League champions at the 2025 Club World Cup, expressing concerns about potential injuries that could affect his future transfer prospects.

The 33-year-old Belgian international, whose contract with Manchester City is set to expire, revealed he is prioritizing his career prospects as he prepares to become a free agent this summer.

"I think in a way I have to take care of myself because if I get injured in the Club World Cup, what am I going to do?" De Bruyne stated. "Nobody's going to take care of me at that point. So there's a big chance probably I won't play it, but I don't know, maybe yes."

The Club World Cup is scheduled to take place in the United States in June and July. For De Bruyne to participate, he would need to sign a short-term contract extension with Manchester City, an option he appears hesitant to pursue.

The midfielder's cautious approach highlights the delicate position experienced players face when balancing club commitments against career security, particularly as they approach the latter stages of their playing careers.

De Bruyne has been a pivotal figure at Manchester City since joining in 2015, helping the club secure multiple Premier League titles and other domestic honors. His potential departure marks the end of an era for the Manchester club, with speculation growing about his next destination.

While his future club remains undisclosed, De Bruyne's comments suggest he is actively planning for life after Manchester City and prioritizing a smooth transition to his next team rather than risking injury in additional competitions.
