A dead body was discovered hanging from a mango tree in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday, marking the second such grim finding in the state within two weeks.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, revealing that authorities were alerted to the discovery through the deceased's phone by an unidentified person.
"The body has been identified and deposited in a morgue, with efforts ongoing to contact the family," Ikenga stated in an official press release.
This disturbing incident follows closely behind the discovery of a pregnant woman's body in a forest in Ideani, Idemili South Local Government Area approximately two weeks ago, raising concerns about safety in the region.
In response to these incidents, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed officers to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering efforts across the state.
"The police command is working to unravel the details of the unfortunate event and bring perpetrators to justice," the police spokesperson added.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the incidents are connected or if foul play is suspected in either case. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
Residents of Anambra State are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station as authorities continue their investigation.
