Veteran Nigerian actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as 'Yemi my lover' from his 1993 movie, has shared a shocking account of how he narrowly escaped execution on military orders in 1996.

In a recent interview with Mr LilGaga on YouTube, Ayebo revealed that one Major Adeoye ordered his execution during the military era in Nigeria, specifically during Olagunsoye Oyinlola's tenure as military governor of Lagos State.

According to the actor, the incident occurred on April 19, 1996, when four soldiers came to his office at Lagos Island, claiming they wanted to take him to Alausa for a meeting. Upon arrival, he met Major Adeoye who accused him of an offense he knew nothing about.

"They started beating me, and Major Adeoye asked them to kill me," Ayebo recounted. "During the military era, you don't question them. When they give an order, it must be taken."

The actor's life was spared when one of Major Adeoye's colleagues intervened, questioning the reason for the execution order. Instead, Ayebo was detained along with five of his staff members.

Ayebo described the financial toll the incident took on his life and career. "I spent over N500,000 before I could come out of the issue. I sold everything I had including my car, house, and more," he said.

Though he was eventually found innocent, the actor lamented that the incident marked a major setback in his life and career. "Since then, things have not been the same again," he added.

In the interview, Ayebo also appealed for connections to help him reestablish himself in the Nigerian movie industry, suggesting he has struggled to regain his footing since the 1996 incident.

The actor gained fame following his role in the 1993 movie that earned him the nickname 'Yemi my lover,' which has remained with him throughout his career in Nollywood.
