Tragedy struck in Makurdi, Benue State, as a 400-level student of Kwararafa University, identified as Ella, was reportedly killed by officers of the Nigeria Police Force during a stop-and-search operation.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi when police officers attached to the Makurdi E Division allegedly opened fire on a vehicle in which the victim was traveling. A bullet from the discharge fatally struck Ella.

Human rights activist Ukan Kurugh, who reported the incident, described the killing as "another unacceptable loss of innocent life" and has called for justice for the deceased student.

When contacted for comments, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, responded via text message stating, "I will call you back." However, no further response had been received as of press time.
