Afrobeats singer Orezi has opened up about the reasons behind his gradual disappearance from the Nigerian music scene, attributing it to a loss of ambition and competitive drive.
Speaking during a recent episode of Hip TV's programme 'Trending', the 'Ogede' hitmaker explained that he became too comfortable with his status in the industry, which ultimately led to his decline in relevance.
"I faded out [of the music industry] because I became less ambitious and comfortable with where I am. I was always on vacation, enjoying myself. I became less ambitious and took myself out of the competition [in the music industry]," Orezi revealed.
The singer emphasized the crucial role of competition in maintaining consistency in the music business. He cited superstar Davido as an example of an artist who, despite achieving enormous success, continues to work with the hunger of an emerging talent.
"Competition fuels consistency. Look at Davido for example, he hustles like an underground artist. He has money and fame but he still maintains his hustling spirit," he added.
Orezi, who gained popularity with hits like 'Rihanna' and 'Shoki', was once a prominent figure in Nigeria's music industry before gradually fading from the limelight in recent years.
His candid admission highlights the demanding nature of Nigeria's competitive music industry, where consistency and innovation are essential for sustained relevance.
The singer's reflections come at a time when the Nigerian Afrobeats scene continues to gain global recognition, with artists facing increasing pressure to maintain visibility and relevance in a rapidly evolving industry.
