The Nationwide League One (NLO) has taken decisive action by expelling Campos FC and A&A Kiviasennus from the league following allegations of match manipulation in their recent fixture.
The disciplinary measure comes after a controversial matchday six encounter that saw Campos FC defeat A&A Kiviasennus by an unusual scoreline of 15-2 at the Awka City Stadium, immediately raising suspicions within the football community.
In addition to the expulsion of both clubs, the NLO has suspended all players from both teams indefinitely. The match officials who oversaw the game have also been suspended pending further investigation.
NLO Chief Operating Officer, Olushola Ogunnowo, confirmed the sanctions in an official memo, stating: "The players and officials of the two clubs, Campos FC and A&A, have therefore been suspended indefinitely pending final ratification by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)."
The league's disciplinary committee has also announced the complete cancellation of the match from official records.
This incident marks another challenging moment for Nigerian football's lower divisions, which have faced previous issues with match manipulation. The NLO has been working to improve the integrity of the league, with similar disciplinary actions taken against other clubs in recent times.
The case has now been referred to the Nigeria Football Federation for final ratification of the sanctions, as the football authorities continue their efforts to combat match-fixing in the domestic game.
