Nigerian troops have launched a major offensive against terrorist hideouts across Sokoto and Zamfara States, successfully eliminating six insurgents and recovering weapons during an intensified phase of Operation FANSAN YANMA.

The multi-day operation targeted terrorist enclaves in several locations including Gidan Madi, Tsamiya Village, Tudun Ruwa, Alela, and the notorious Goboro Forest, which has long served as a safe haven for terrorist groups operating in Nigeria's Northwest region.

According to security sources, the troops encountered significant resistance during the operation, including ambushes by the Lakurawa faction, a well-known terror group active in the region. Despite these challenges, the military forces successfully cleared key locations including Areo, Damoria, and Tumuna Village.

"These camps served as logistical bases for attacks on civilians and security forces," a senior military source revealed.

The operation resulted in six terrorists being neutralized, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds. Military casualties included one soldier who sustained injuries and was evacuated to the 8 Division Military Hospital in Sokoto for treatment. Tragically, a vigilante supporting the military operation lost his life during the engagement.

Items recovered during the operation included weapons, ammunition, two handheld radios, and motorcycles that the terrorists had been using for mobility and communication purposes.

This operation represents a significant escalation in the military's efforts to combat terrorism in Nigeria's northwestern states, which have faced increasing security challenges in recent years. The successful raids on these terrorist hideouts demonstrate the Nigerian military's commitment to restoring peace and security in affected regions.

Operation FANSAN YANMA Phase V continues as part of the broader counter-terrorism strategy to eliminate insurgent threats and dismantle terrorist networks operating within Nigerian territory.
