The Nigerian Army has issued a security advisory to officers participating in the 2025 Promotion Examination in Benin City, Edo State, urging them to remain vigilant amid prevailing security challenges in the region.

Major-General Adebayo Adegbite, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), addressed the officers on Sunday, emphasizing the need for heightened security awareness during their stay in Benin City.

"You have undergone a rigorous one-month preparatory course. The mock examination assessed your readiness. We expect good performance," Major-General Adegbite stated.

He specifically warned about the security situation in Benin, advising officers to "avoid unnecessary movements, move in pairs, and be security conscious."

Examination Details and Expectations

According to Major-General Kevin Aligbe, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and President of the Examination, a total of 86 Nigerian Army captains will be sitting for the 2025 Written Promotion Examinations.

Major-General Aligbe described the examination as "a major stepping stone to higher responsibilities" while emphasizing the importance of professionalism, discipline, and zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

"Let me assure you that if you have prepared well, you will pass this exam without resorting to any form of malpractice. We expect nothing short of 100% success," he stated.

The examination is a prerequisite for promotion to the rank of major in the Nigerian Army. Officers are allowed only three attempts under Army policy, making this a critical career milestone for many participants.

Strict Examination Guidelines

Major-General Aligbe issued a stern warning that any candidate caught cheating, discussing answers in the examination hall, or violating security protocols would face immediate disqualification and further disciplinary action.

To encourage excellence, awards and commendation letters, including cash prizes, will be given to candidates who rank first, second, and third in the examinations.

The examination is part of the Nigerian Army's structured promotion process aimed at building a professional, disciplined, and merit-driven officer corps, in line with the Chief of Army Staff's vision of developing a capable and responsive force.

Major-General Aligbe assured candidates of fairness and transparency in the marking process, noting that the ultimate goal is to see all participants succeed in the examinations.
