Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has made an impassioned appeal for statewide unity in the face of escalating security challenges posed by armed herdsmen attacks on communities across the state.
Speaking during his midterm report presentation at the township stadium in Vandeikya on Sunday, Governor Alia described the persistent attacks as a critical threat to the very survival of the state, calling for collective resolve and solidarity in confronting the menace.
"The security situation demands our unified response. I urge all residents to maintain vigilance and work closely with security forces to defend our communities," the governor stated.
Alia acknowledged the Federal Government's support through the deployment of additional security personnel to bolster peace efforts in the troubled state. He urged citizens to cooperate fully with these forces to ensure lasting results.
Midterm Achievements
During the event, Governor Alia highlighted his administration's achievements in key sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, ICT, infrastructure, security, transportation, and human capital development.
"In less than two years, our government has recorded accomplishments surpassing those of previous administrations over nearly a decade," he declared.
The governor also announced that warehouses are stocked with fertilizer ready for distribution to farmers ahead of the 2025 planting season, aimed at boosting food production across the state.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Vandeikya for their warm reception and steadfast support throughout his tenure thus far.
Political Support
Several dignitaries present at the event commended the governor's performance. Hon. Prince Solomon Wombo, Chairman of the occasion and Member representing Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency, along with Hon. Mrs. Kukase Garba, the Chairlady, praised the unwavering loyalty of the Kunav people to Governor Alia.
Other speakers included Vandeikya Council Chairman, Hon. Dennis Guda; KUDA Chairman, Deacon Emmanuel Tor Yajir; Members representing Tiev and Kyan Constituencies, Hon. Dr. Matthew Damkor and Hon. Terna Shimawua; the Ter Kunav, His Royal Highness, Chief Nyiyongo Achiaku; and APC State Chairman, Hon. Chief Benjamin Omale.
A significant highlight of the event was the defection of over a thousand individuals from various political parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further strengthening the governor's political base in the region.
