Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has backed Chelsea to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, claiming the 22-year-old would be "an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson" amid interest from several Premier League giants.

Delap, who has impressed in his debut Premier League season with 12 goals for Ipswich Town, has attracted attention from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Speaking to BetVictor, Redknapp revealed: "I have heard that Chelsea are quite hot on Liam Delap – I could see him going to Stamford Bridge this summer."

The veteran manager also suggested Arsenal might join the race, adding: "I also wonder if Arsenal would take a chance on him too because they are also looking for a striker."

Redknapp was particularly emphatic about Delap's potential impact at Chelsea, where he believes the young striker would outperform current forward Nicolas Jackson. "I would say Delap is an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson if Chelsea were to move for him," Redknapp stated.

The comments come as Chelsea continue their search for consistent goalscoring options under their current management. Jackson, who joined Chelsea last summer, has faced criticism despite showing flashes of potential throughout the season.

Delap's impressive tally of 12 Premier League goals for a newly-promoted Ipswich side has made him one of the most sought-after young strikers in English football, with a potential summer transfer battle brewing between the Premier League's elite clubs.
