Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, has been officially renamed to Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), following a formal implementation of the law passed by the Benue State House of Assembly.
The renaming became legally effective after Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia signed the bill into law on December 30, 2024. The change honors the legacy of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu, a former governor of Benue State.
According to a memorandum from the Office of the Registrar, all official communications, documentation, and correspondence concerning the institution will now bear the new name. The university management has directed all Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, and Heads of Department to implement this change with immediate effect.
"This renaming reflects the decision and policy of the Benue State Government and is now legally in effect. The university would continue to uphold its mandate in delivering quality tertiary education under its new name," the memo stated.
The institution's management committee has conveyed this directive to all relevant stakeholders for implementation, marking a significant change in the identity of one of Benue State's premier higher education institutions while preserving its commitment to academic excellence.
The renaming of the university is seen as a tribute to Rev. Fr. Adasu's contributions to education and development in Benue State during his tenure as governor.
