A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has dismissed threats made by the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, against former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti.
Akindele claimed that those supporting Peter Obi already recognize him as an "epitome of failure," suggesting that Abure's threats would have little impact on Obi's reputation.
The controversy began when Abure challenged both Obi and Otti to provide evidence of financial support made to them during the last general elections. In what appeared to be a warning, Abure threatened: "If they provoke me further, I will reveal everything. When I open my mouth, they will stink like rotten eggs no one wants to touch."
Responding to these comments on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ayekooto stated: "There's nothing you can say that will make Obi become smelly eggs." He further claimed that Obi's supporters were already well aware of his character before promoting him.
This exchange highlights growing tensions within the Labour Party and between opposition figures as Nigeria's political landscape continues to evolve following the last general elections.
The public disagreement comes amid reports of internal conflicts within the Labour Party, with Abure's leadership being contested by some factions within the party.
Neither Peter Obi nor Governor Alex Otti has publicly responded to Abure's allegations or threats at the time of this report.
