Former France defender Patrice Evra has suggested that Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo could make a stunning return to European football, despite recently signing a lucrative new contract in Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo, who left Manchester United in November 2022 to join the Saudi Pro League, has recently committed his future to Al-Nassr by signing a bumper two-year contract extension in June this year. The new deal will reportedly see the 40-year-old Portuguese superstar earn more than half a billion pounds over the next two seasons.
Speaking to Stake, Evra expressed his belief that Ronaldo's Saudi Arabian chapter doesn't necessarily mark the end of his European career. "Cristiano is a machine. [Saudi Arabia] is just a new chapter, not the end. Never say never about Europe," Evra stated.
The comments come after speculation towards the end of the 2024/2025 season suggested Ronaldo might leave Al-Nassr. However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner ultimately decided to extend his stay in the Middle East.
Ronaldo's career has seen him achieve remarkable success across multiple top European leagues, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, before his move to Saudi Arabia. Despite being in the latter stages of his playing career at 40 years old, the Portuguese forward continues to demonstrate exceptional fitness and goal-scoring ability.
Evra's comments highlight the enduring belief in Ronaldo's capabilities and suggest that the door to European football might not be completely closed for one of the sport's greatest ever players.
