The Executive Chairman of Ogbadibo Local Government Area in Benue State, Hon. Sunday Ameh Ajunwa, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Orokam community following a concerning surge in kidnappings and violent attacks that have claimed several lives in recent weeks.
According to an official statement released on Saturday, August 16, the restriction of movement will commence from Sunday, August 17, 2025, and will be in effect between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily until further notice.
Chairman Ajunwa explained that the curfew is a necessary security measure aimed at curtailing criminal activities in the area, limiting unnecessary movement during nighttime hours, and enabling security agencies to intensify their patrols and respond more effectively to emergencies.
"This decision was not taken lightly, but the safety of our people must be prioritized," the council chairman stated. "We urge all residents to comply fully with this directive and cooperate with security operatives who are working tirelessly to restore peace and security to our community."
The security situation in Benue South has deteriorated in recent months, with Senator Abba Moro recently decrying the rising incidents of kidnapping in the senatorial district and calling for urgent action from security agencies.
In a related development, security concerns have been raised about the Ade-Igwu trailer park, which has been described as a potential haven for bandits operating in the region. Community leaders have called for increased surveillance of such locations that might serve as hideouts for criminal elements.
Nigerian troops have been actively working to address the security challenges in Benue State, with recent operations resulting in the dislodgement of armed herders and recovery of rifles in various parts of the state.
Residents of Orokam and surrounding communities are advised to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security outpost and adhere strictly to the curfew regulations to avoid sanctions.
