A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Lagos State, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as "Raye," has alleged that the scheme is withholding her discharge certificate following her public criticism of President Bola Tinubu's government.

Uguamaye gained public attention earlier this year after her TikTok video went viral in which she criticized the Tinubu administration and described Lagos as a "smelling state."

In a recent video shared on Instagram on Saturday, the corps member claimed her Local Government Inspector (LGI) refused to clear her for April despite her presence on the scheduled date. She alleged that during the clearance exercise, she was repeatedly told to "go to the back" until her file was eventually seized.

"I was later informed I would not be issued my discharge certificate on the grounds that I missed the April clearance, a claim I strongly deny," Uguamaye stated in her video.

Expressing her frustration, she wrote on social media: "I genuinely wish I wasn't a Lagos State corps member because it's a waste of my time." She added that she has decided to put the matter behind her.

As of the time of this report, the NYSC has not responded to these allegations. Attempts by BenriNews to reach the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Edwin Megwa, were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his mobile phone went unanswered.

This incident raises questions about freedom of expression for corps members and the potential consequences they might face for political criticism during their service year.
