The Ebonyi State Government has announced that the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport will resume full operations on August 19, 2025, as the installation and connection of airfield lighting to electricity nears completion.

Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, revealed in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Saturday that experts handling the airfield lighting installation are working expeditiously to complete the connection within two weeks.

"The expert in airfield lighting system installation and other engineers handling this project are on the fast lane, trying to maximise two weeks to conclude the installation and hooking up of the airfield lighting system to electricity powerhouse," the statement partly read.

The commissioner encouraged air travelers from neighboring communities including Ogeb, Obubra, Itigidi, Boki, Okigwe, and surrounding areas, as well as passengers from Abia, Abuja, and Lagos State, to purchase tickets and utilize the airport's services once operations resume.

According to the statement, United Nigeria Airline will operate flights connecting Abuja to Abakaliki and Lagos to Abakaliki, with return journeys also available. The airline serves as the primary carrier for the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, located in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area.

The temporary closure of the airport has been necessary to complete essential infrastructure upgrades, particularly the airfield lighting system, which will enhance safety and enable expanded flight operations.

This development represents a significant step in strengthening Ebonyi State's transportation infrastructure and improving connectivity between the state and other major Nigerian cities.
