The Alara of Aramoko Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Olu Adegoke Adeyemi, has passed away at the age of 82, according to a statement released by his family on Saturday.
The revered traditional ruler reportedly died on Friday after a life dedicated to service and community development. In their announcement, the family described the late monarch as a symbol of "remarkable leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people," noting that his contributions would remain a lasting testament to his legacy.
Born on December 4, 1942, Oba Adeyemi began his professional journey as a teacher before rising through the ranks to become a senior civil servant. His administrative experience expanded when he served as Sole Administrator of the defunct Ifesowapo Local Government before ascending the throne of his forefathers as the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti in 2009.
Beyond his traditional duties, the late royal father made significant contributions to education in Ekiti State. He served as Chancellor of Ekiti State University, where he championed numerous projects aimed at improving educational standards and expanding access for local students.
During his 16-year reign, Oba Adeyemi was widely credited with fostering unity among his subjects, driving community development initiatives, preserving cultural heritage, resolving disputes, and creating opportunities for youth empowerment in Aramoko Ekiti and beyond.
The family stated that funeral arrangements for the late monarch will be announced in due course, as the community begins to mourn the loss of their traditional leader.
