Goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena and left-back Abdularafiu Taiwo were notably absent from training as the home-based Super Eagles held a recovery session on Wednesday morning following their match against Senegal in the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament.

Ozoemena, the team's first-choice goalkeeper, had already missed the clash with Senegal due to a knee problem, with Lawal Mustapha stepping in to fill his position between the posts.

Meanwhile, Taiwo was substituted in the second half of the Senegal match after picking up a knock, with Harrison Uzondu coming on as his replacement.

Both players are now in a race against time to regain fitness ahead of Nigeria's crucial second Group D fixture against Sudan. The match is scheduled for next Tuesday at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar.

Ozoemena, formerly of Enyimba FC, has been a key figure in the squad, and his potential absence could be significant for the team's campaign in the tournament designed exclusively for players plying their trade in their home countries.

The Nigerian team, under the guidance of coach Augustine Eguavoen, will be looking to secure a positive result against Sudan to strengthen their position in Group D as they aim to progress in the competition.

The technical team is closely monitoring the recovery progress of both players, with a decision on their availability expected closer to match day.
