A woman has been killed and multiple houses set ablaze following a violent clash between Fulani herders and native residents in Rwan and Kopmon communities of Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The violent confrontation, which erupted on Monday morning, prompted the Youth President of Mushere District to alert authorities around 8:10 a.m., according to security analyst Zagazola Makama who shared details of the incident on Tuesday.

While the exact trigger for the violence remains unclear, the situation rapidly escalated, resulting in the death of an unidentified woman and the destruction of several residential buildings in the affected communities.

"Troops of the Nigerian Army, along with other members of the Joint Task Force, were quickly deployed to the affected area to calm the situation and prevent further violence," Makama reported.

Security sources confirmed to BenriNews that monitoring operations are ongoing in the communities, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

This incident adds to a troubling pattern of communal tensions in Plateau State, which has experienced recurring cycles of violence between farming communities and herders over the years. The state government has repeatedly called for peaceful coexistence among different ethnic and religious groups.

Local residents who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed concerns about the frequency of such clashes and called for enhanced security presence in vulnerable communities across the state.

The Plateau State Police Command is expected to provide further details as investigations progress.
