Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has rewarded Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin with N30 million and an apartment in Akure following Nigeria's triumph at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The governor hosted Demehin, who is an indigene of Ondo State, at the Government House in Akure on Monday to celebrate her contribution to the national team's success.
Demehin, who plays for Fenerbahçe in Turkey, was a standout performer for the Super Falcons during the tournament, playing every minute of Nigeria's six matches. The center-back also scored her first-ever goal for the national team during Nigeria's commanding 5-0 quarter-final victory over Zambia's Copper Queens.
Governor Aiyedatiwa extended his generosity to two other Ondo State indigenes who were part of the Super Falcons' technical team. The team's media officer, Mary Akinsola, and secretary, Mary Oduboku, were each presented with N15 million during the reception.
The Super Falcons' WAFCON 2024 victory further cements their status as the most successful women's national team in Africa, adding another continental title to their impressive collection.
Demehin, a former Falconets star, has quickly established herself as a key player in the senior national team's defensive lineup, with her performances at the tournament drawing praise from football analysts across the continent.
This recognition by the Ondo State government highlights the growing support for women's football in Nigeria and serves as motivation for young female footballers aspiring to represent the country at the highest level.
