Former Governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has been nominated as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan land following a decisive meeting of the Olubadan-In-Council held on Monday at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area.

The nomination process was presided over by the Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, who confirmed that all council members had signed the nomination documents.

"We (members of the Olubadan-In-Council) have all signed and nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland," Ajibola stated during the meeting.

The council's resolution will now be forwarded to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who will determine the date for the official presentation of the staff of office to the new Olubadan.

Oba Ajibola noted that the timing of the installation ceremony would need to consider the burial arrangements for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, which is scheduled for this week.

"The late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will be buried this week. So, this week is not feasible," he explained. "He (Makinde) may decide to pick three weeks, two weeks or one week."

Ladoja, who previously served as Oyo State Governor from 2003 to 2007, will become the 44th traditional ruler of Ibadan, one of Nigeria's largest cities and the capital of Oyo State.

The nomination follows the established succession pattern within the Olubadan chieftaincy system, which is known for its unique hierarchical structure that allows high-ranking chiefs to ascend to the throne based on seniority.

Following his nomination, Ladoja has reportedly expressed his commitment to not delaying the filling of vacant positions within the traditional council once he assumes office.
