Nigeria's D'Tigress secured their fifth consecutive FIBA Women's AfroBasket title on Sunday in Abidjan, with star player Amy Okonkwo earning the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the second straight tournament.

Okonkwo delivered an outstanding performance in the final, contributing 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists as Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64 to maintain their continental dominance.

Award Winners and All-Tournament Team

The tournament recognized several standout performers across different categories. While there was no official award for Best Coach, experts widely acknowledged Nigeria's Rena Wakama as the tournament's top tactician.

The All-Tournament Team, also known as the All-Star Five, featured Okonkwo alongside Cierra Dillard (Senegal), Delicia Washington (South Sudan), Jane Asinde (Uganda), and Sika Koné (Mali).

South Sudan's Delicia Washington claimed the Top Scorer award, while Jessica Thomas of Cameroon was recognized as the Best Three-Point Shooter. Maria Teresa Gakdeng, also representing South Sudan, earned the Best Rebounder honor.

Nigeria's Basketball Dominance

This victory further cements Nigeria's status as the powerhouse of women's basketball in Africa. The D'Tigress have now won five consecutive AfroBasket titles, showcasing remarkable consistency and excellence on the continental stage.

Okonkwo's back-to-back MVP awards highlight her growing influence in African basketball. Her consistent performances throughout the tournament were instrumental in Nigeria's successful title defense.
