A chaotic scene unfolded at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State over the weekend when a cow meant for slaughter went on a rampage, leaving one staff member critically injured and others with various degrees of injuries.
According to sources familiar with the incident, a man in his 30s who attempted to subdue the animal was severely injured after being knocked down by the aggressive cow. The victim sustained deep wounds on his thighs and was immediately rushed to the Government House Clinic for emergency treatment.
"Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently battling for his life," the source revealed.
Another victim identified simply as Peter, who works as a cook at the Government House, also sustained injuries during the incident. The source disclosed that the first two butchers called to slaughter the cow were unable to handle the animal and fled the scene. The critically injured victim was reportedly the second person called to take over the task when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols within the Government House premises, particularly regarding the handling of livestock meant for consumption. As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Delta State Government House regarding the incident or the condition of the injured staff.
This unusual occurrence highlights the potential dangers associated with animal handling, even in seemingly controlled environments like a government facility.
