Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has received a significant boost ahead of the new Premier League season with three key defenders expected to return from injury in time for their opening fixture against Manchester United.

Gabriel Magalhães, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurrien Timber were all absent during Arsenal's recent 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in a pre-season friendly played in Hong Kong on Thursday.

The defensive trio's absence has been a concern for the Gunners, with Gabriel and Timber particularly missing from all three of Arsenal's pre-season fixtures in Asia after sustaining injuries towards the end of last season.

When questioned about their availability for the crucial season opener at Old Trafford on August 17, Arteta provided an optimistic update.

"I don't think so," Arteta initially responded regarding concerns they might miss the match, before clarifying: "If they evolve like they've been involved in the last few days, so Gabriel Magalhães, Calafiori and Timber, the three of them will be available."

This news comes as a welcome development for Arsenal supporters, as the club prepares for what promises to be another competitive Premier League campaign. The Gunners will be looking to improve on their second-place finish last season and challenge Manchester City for the title.

The return of these defensive stalwarts will significantly strengthen Arsenal's backline ahead of their challenging opener against Erik ten Hag's Manchester United side at Old Trafford.
