The accident happened along Murtala Muhammed way by Ikpoba slope when a speeding truck heading towards Agbor road lost control and rammed into five other vehicles.

According to reports, one of the vehicles plunged into Ikpoba river due to the impact of the collision.

The Edo State Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident to BenriNews, attributing the cause to excessive speed and loss of concentration by the truck driver.

"The accident happened at Ikpoba slope before the tipper garage. It was serious but no one died in the accident," Mathew stated.

"It involved six vehicles including the truck. 26 persons were involved, 11 male adults and 15 female adults. Six people were injured including four male and two females. No one was killed," he added.

The FRSC commander further revealed that the injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment while the vehicles were taken away by officers from the Esigie police station.

This accident highlights the ongoing concerns about road safety in Benin City, particularly along the busy Murtala Muhammed way which has witnessed several accidents in recent times.

Road safety experts continue to advise motorists, especially commercial drivers, to adhere to speed limits and maintain focus while driving to prevent such avoidable accidents.
