The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) has successfully drilled four oil wells in the Kolmani area of Bauchi State, marking significant progress in the company's northern oil exploration efforts.
Mr. Yusuf Usman, a director at NNPCL, disclosed this development on Wednesday during the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation's two-day interactive session on government-citizens engagement held in Kaduna.
According to Usman, the company is currently evaluating appropriate technologies for the next phase of drilling operations in the region. "So far, the NNPCL has drilled four wells in the Kolmani area of Bauchi State, and is currently evaluating the appropriate technology to be deployed for the next phase of drilling operations," he stated.
The NNPCL director emphasized that the company remains firmly committed to the exploration and development of oil and gas resources across Nigeria's northern region. He further noted that planned facilities are expected to significantly enhance gas supply and accessibility throughout the northern states.
During his presentation, Usman highlighted several achievements of the company under President Tinubu's administration that have benefited the North and other parts of the country. These developments align with the federal government's broader energy security and economic diversification goals.
The Kolmani oil field, situated at the border between Bauchi and Gombe states, represents one of Nigeria's most promising inland exploration projects. Successful development of these resources could transform the economic landscape of the region while reducing the country's dependence on southern oil fields.
Industry experts suggest that continued investment in northern oil exploration could help balance Nigeria's energy production geography while creating new employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth in previously underserved regions.
