The Super Falcons of Nigeria have shortlisted six outstanding players for the Fans' Player of the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament following their triumphant campaign in Morocco.
In an announcement via their official X account on Monday, July 28, 2025, the team stated that all nominees "showed up when it mattered most for the team" during the tournament. The Super Falcons have called on fans to cast their votes to determine which player deserves the prestigious recognition.
The six players nominated for the award include Jennifer Echegini, Esther Okoronkwo, Ashleigh Plumptre, Folashade Florence Ijamilusi, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Chinwendu Ihezuo. Each player made significant contributions to Nigeria's successful WAFCON campaign.
The Super Falcons emerged victorious at the tournament after defeating host nation Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final match played over the weekend. Okoronkwo, Ijamilusi, and Echegini were the goalscorers for Nigeria in the final, helping the team secure their record-extending 10th WAFCON title under the guidance of coach Justine Pwanidi Madugu.
Following their victory, President Bola Tinubu is set to receive the Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa and confer national honours on the team for their outstanding achievement. The team has already arrived in Abuja and is scheduled for a trophy parade to celebrate their success with Nigerian fans.
The Federal Government has praised the Super Falcons for inscribing Nigeria's name in gold through their remarkable performance at the tournament, further cementing the team's status as the most successful women's national football team in Africa.
