The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unprecedented financial reward to the Super Falcons following their triumphant campaign at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

President Tinubu hosted the victorious Super Falcons team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday after their return from Morocco, where they clinched the continental title with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the host nation on Saturday.

In an unprecedented show of appreciation, the President rewarded each player with $100,000, while the 11 officials received $50,000 each. Additionally, the team members were gifted three-bedroom apartments at the Renewed Hope Estate and conferred with the national honour of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Gusau described the President's gesture as historic and motivational for young girls across the nation. "I am overjoyed because Mr. President has done what no leader before him had done. This is a magnificent day for women's football and indeed, football generally. This action of Mr. President will serve as a fillip to draw out the girl-child in our country to seek greatness through legitimate ways," he stated.

The Super Falcons' victory in Morocco marks another milestone in their illustrious history as the most successful women's national team in Africa. Their performance throughout the tournament showcased exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork, culminating in their hard-fought win against the host nation in the final.

This recognition from the highest office in the land represents a significant boost for women's sports in Nigeria, potentially setting a new standard for the celebration and reward of sporting excellence in the country.

The Chairman of Kwara United, in a related development, has also announced the club's readiness for the upcoming 2025-26 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, signaling continued growth in Nigerian football across all levels.
