The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed profound grief over the sudden passing of Dr. Leon Usigbe, the Abuja Bureau Chief of Nigerian Tribune newspaper, describing him as a "dazzling professional" who made significant contributions to Nigerian journalism.

In a statement released on Sunday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP highlighted Usigbe's exceptional qualities as an experienced and quintessential journalist who demonstrated remarkable professionalism throughout his career.

"The PDP is shocked and deeply grieved by the sudden death of the Abuja Bureau Chief, Villa and PDP Correspondent of the Nigerian Tribune, Dr. Leon Usigbe," Ologunagba stated in the official communication.

The statement further characterized Usigbe as "an exceptionally cerebral yet calm, friendly and thorough professional who dedicated his life, skills, resources and energy towards the deepening of multi-party democracy, good governance and accountability in the country."

Ologunagba emphasized that the late journalist was known for his courage in standing for justice, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law. "He fearlessly spoke truth to power with his reporting, opinions and incisive commentaries," the statement noted.

The PDP spokesperson added that the party would always remember Usigbe for his professional composure, affable disposition, and excellent working relationship as a correspondent covering the party.

In extending condolences, the party commiserated with the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune, the PDP Press Corps, and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). The statement also expressed special sympathy to Usigbe's immediate family.

"The PDP mourns, our prayers and hearts go out to his widow and children at this moment of grief. We pray to God to send the comforter to console them with His abiding presence and grace," the statement concluded.

As of the time of this report, further details regarding funeral arrangements for the late journalist have not been announced.
