President Bola Tinubu is set to honor 210 former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members at a special ceremony scheduled for Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to a statement released on Saturday by NYSC's Director of Media, Mr. Emeka Mgbemena, the President's NYSC Honours Award will recognize outstanding corps members from the 2020 to 2023 service years.
The awardees include 200 ex-corps members who demonstrated exceptional performance across all four cardinal programs of the NYSC: Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, and Winding-Up/Passing-Out.
In addition to these high achievers, the President will also honor 10 former corps members under the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative who suffered various degrees of permanent disabilities while serving their country.
"Others that will also be honoured by the President under the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative are 10 ex-corps members that suffered various degrees of permanent disabilities while serving their fatherland," the statement noted.
The Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, alongside the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu and the NYSC Management team, are expected to welcome the award recipients and guests to this prestigious event at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.
This recognition highlights the government's commitment to acknowledging the contributions and sacrifices of young Nigerians who have served through the mandatory one-year national service program, particularly those who have gone above and beyond in their service to the nation.
