Nigeria's home-based Super Eagles have arrived in Zanzibar for the second phase of their preparation ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with two friendly matches scheduled against the host nation.

The team, under the guidance of coach Éric Chelle, touched down in Zanzibar on Friday to intensify their preparations for the continental tournament. According to the schedule, the Home Eagles will face Zanzibar in their first friendly encounter on Monday, July 28, followed by a second match on Thursday, July 31.

Following the conclusion of these warm-up fixtures, the Nigerian contingent will relocate to their official accommodation on the Island as they enter the final stretch of preparation for the championship.

At the CHAN 2024 finals, Nigeria has been drawn in Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo. The Home Eagles will begin their campaign against Senegal at the Amman Stadium on Wednesday, August 7, in what promises to be a challenging opener.

These friendly matches come at a crucial time for the team, which has reportedly been dealing with player withdrawals and injuries during their preparation phase. Earlier warm-up games saw the Home Eagles secure victories against local sides, including a 2-0 win over Ojodu City and a narrow triumph against Remo Stars.

The African Nations Championship is a tournament designed exclusively for players plying their trade in their home countries' domestic leagues, providing a platform to showcase local talent on the continental stage.
