A road project in Plateau State worth N12 million awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works in 2024 has been completely washed away by flood less than a year after its completion, raising serious concerns about the quality of work executed.

According to a report shared by TrackaNG, a civic accountability organization that enables citizens to track and provide feedback on public projects in their communities, the project for the resurfacing and dressing of the Kogin Kasar Wase-Tofar Road in Plateau State has been abandoned, leaving several portions of the road impassable.

The investigation revealed that despite the funds allocated in the 2024 Federal Government budget, the project was poorly implemented. Most parts of the road have already deteriorated, while some sections are no longer motorable, depriving local residents of the intended benefits of the infrastructure.

TrackaNG has called on the federal government to take immediate action, stating: "We call on the Federal Ministry of Works, specifically its roads department, to release full details of the project and compel Sahar Continental Ltd to return to the site to correct the shoddy work."

The civic group further emphasized that "this incident highlights recurring issues with accountability in Nigeria's public infrastructure projects, where contractors often deliver substandard work despite significant government spending."

This case adds to growing concerns about the quality of infrastructure projects across Nigeria, with citizens demanding greater transparency and stricter oversight to prevent such failures from recurring. The premature deterioration of the road raises questions about the procurement process, quality control measures, and the supervision of government-funded projects.

Local residents who had briefly enjoyed the improved road conditions are now facing worse situations than before the project commenced, with increased transportation difficulties affecting daily economic activities and access to essential services.

As of the time of this report, neither the Federal Ministry of Works nor the contractor, Sahar Continental Ltd, has issued an official statement regarding the failed road project or plans for remediation.
