A joint task force from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed Light House Club on Admiralty Way, Lekki, for violating environmental regulations.
The enforcement action, executed on Monday, was announced by Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, through a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
According to the Commissioner, the nightclub was shut down due to continuous noise pollution issues and repeated disregard for official warnings previously issued by state authorities.
"This includes installing appropriate soundproofing systems and undergoing verification by LASEPA to confirm that noise emissions fall within the approved limits," Wahab explained regarding conditions for reopening.
The Commissioner emphasized that the closure will remain in effect until Light House Club's management fully complies with required environmental standards. He further stressed the government's position on environmental compliance.
"Our environmental laws are not negotiable. The right of Lagos residents to enjoy peace and quiet in their communities will always take priority over commercial interests," Wahab asserted.
This enforcement action highlights the Lagos State government's increasing focus on environmental regulation compliance, particularly in high-density commercial and entertainment districts like Lekki where residential and commercial interests frequently intersect.
The closure serves as a reminder to other entertainment venues across the state that environmental regulations, especially those concerning noise pollution, will be strictly enforced to protect residents' quality of life.
