A Yola-based peace and development advocate, Abubakar Duduwale, has announced plans to embark on an ambitious 800-kilometer peace trek from Yola, Adamawa State, to Kahutu village in Katsina State, beginning Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Duduwale, known as the "World Trekker for Peace," aims to complete the journey on foot over approximately two weeks, during which he plans to engage with Nigerians along his route to promote peace and national development.
During a press briefing held in Yola on Saturday, the 53-year-old trekker explained his choice of destination: "I have chosen to head to Kahutu, the birthplace of famous singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara, who I view as a model of peace and development for the messages he preaches in his songs."
This is not Duduwale's first long-distance trek. In 2016, he embarked on an ambitious Nigeria-to-London journey to raise awareness about terrorism and its devastating effects on lives and properties. A year earlier, in 2015, he trekked from Yola to Abuja in support of then-newly elected President Muhammadu Buhari.
The veteran trekker revealed that his passion for peace advocacy through trekking dates back to 2008. "I have trekked round the 19 northern states of Nigeria promulgating the gospel of peace and war against terrorism, insurgency, corruption, drug abuse as well as promoting unity," he was quoted as saying.
"I started trekking in 2008 when I decided not to sleep in Adamawa State that particular day and I moved from my village to the border between Nigeria and Cameroon. My trekking is not for fun but for world peace. We must shun all negative tendencies," Duduwale added.
Duduwale, who hails from Ganye, a local government area in the southern part of Adamawa State, currently resides in Yola. He indicated that he has other routes planned for the near future as he continues his mission to promote peace and progress across Nigeria.
