Nigeria's Super Falcons have secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after delivering a commanding 5-0 victory over Zambia's Copper Queens on Thursday.
The Nigerian side wasted no time asserting their dominance, with center-back Osinachi Ohale heading home a precise cross from Esther Okoronkwo just two minutes into the match, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided encounter.
Following the early goal, both teams engaged in a tactical battle for control, with Zambia captain Barbara Banda testing Nigeria's defensive line. However, the Super Falcons maintained their composure and extended their lead in the 33rd minute when Okoronkwo skillfully controlled Rasheedat Ajibade's cross before firing home from inside the box.
Chiwendu Ihezuo capitalized on a defensive error to add a third goal just before halftime, registering her third goal of the tournament and strengthening her position in the race for the top scorer award.
Despite Zambia enjoying a spell of possession after the break, Nigeria's defense remained resolute. The Super Falcons further extended their lead in the 68th minute when Tosin Demehin headed in another excellent cross from Okoronkwo, making it 4-0.
The rout was completed in the 90th minute as substitute Folashade Ijamilusi slammed home Ajibade's pass, putting the final touch on an emphatic victory for Coach Justine Madugu's side.
With this impressive performance, Nigeria has set up a semi-final clash against either South Africa or Senegal, scheduled for next Tuesday. The Super Falcons' dominant display sends a strong message to their remaining competitors in the tournament as they continue their quest for continental glory.
