The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested one Yahaya Saleh for attempting to bribe police investigators with N1.5 million to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper currently under investigation.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Yahaya approached investigators handling a kidnapping case and offered the substantial sum to compromise the investigation and facilitate the unlawful release of the suspect from custody.

The police spokesperson commended the integrity of the investigators who rejected the bribe attempt and instead initiated proper legal procedures, which led to Yahaya's immediate arrest.

"The police investigators rejected the offer and promptly initiated the necessary legal procedures, which led to the immediate arrest of Yahaya," Adeh stated in the release.

She further revealed that an investigation is currently ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate who may be connected to the case.

This development comes amid intensified efforts by the FCT Police Command to combat kidnapping activities in the nation's capital. BenriNews reports that operatives of the command have recently arrested several kidnappers who have been terrorizing residents across the Federal Capital Territory.

The arrest highlights the ongoing challenges of corruption attempts within the criminal justice system and demonstrates the commitment of some law enforcement officers to maintain professional integrity despite financial inducements.
