The Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, has officially announced the commencement of the 2025 annual vacation for all high courts in the state. The vacation period will run from Monday, August 4, to Sunday, October 5, 2025, spanning approximately two months.
In a statement titled "Taraba State Legal Notice No. 3 of the 2025 Annual Vacation of the High Court of Justice" released to journalists in Jalingo on Tuesday, Justice Agya cited provisions under Order 8 Rules 2011, which entitles high courts to an annual vacation not exceeding six weeks during August, as determined by the Chief Judge through official gazette notification.
"For the avoidance of doubt, vacation in this notification means that the courts in all the divisions of the high court of the state will not be sitting during the period, except where the action is urgent or a judge, at the request of all the parties concerned, agrees to hear the matter," Justice Agya clarified in the statement.
To ensure continuity of essential judicial services during the vacation period, Justice Yahaya Goje has been appointed as the vacation judge. He will be responsible for handling any urgent matters that may arise while regular court operations are suspended.
The annual court vacation is a standard practice in Nigeria's judicial calendar, allowing judges and court officials time for rest and administrative reorganization before commencing a new legal year. During this period, only matters deemed urgent by the vacation judge will be heard, while routine cases will be postponed until regular court sessions resume in October.
Legal practitioners and litigants with cases in Taraba State High Courts are advised to take note of this vacation schedule and plan accordingly for any pending matters.
